GET STARTED Valuable Information for all AISG Employees Commonly Asked Questions What hardware will be in my classroom? Periodically faculty & staff make requests for technology equipment. This information detailed below is just a quick review of what is provided to each teacher. Some teachers may teach in multiple locations. In such cases, projectors & similar nonportable equipment are installed in both teaching spaces, but all portable equipment noted below moves between those spaces, including computer power supply, dongle. This information also applies to support staff. Items issues to support staff are identified for their productivity and are typically limited. See below items which include an asterisk. Classroom Hardware The below list indicates what hardware teachers will have in their classrooms. Additional hardware beyond this list is subject to budgeting and planning in advance. AISG Standard Issue 1 laptop & protective cover * (some support staff may have desktops in certain instances) 1 power supply* 1 dongle to connect via VGA cable 1 Apple TV to connect via AirPlay 1 projector or TV (TV Kindergarten only) 1 remote for projector 1 set speakers A3 Microsoft Office 365 account, install on up to 5 laptops & 5 phones/tablets * Available as needed and budget allows Available from each library on limited, temporary basis Portable DVD drives Presentation "clickers" Available from Facilities Department Extension cords Printing AISG uses an integrated printing approach. MFP devices are scattered around campus and can be used by faculty, staff or students according to printing & building guidelines. Why Can't I Access Wifi? The most common reason a user can't access wifi is because their wifi is turned off. Or if they have changed their Office 365 password, they have to log back into wifi with the new password. Another solution is to simply turn wifi off and turn it back on. This frequently resolves the problem if it's not a password problem. Also, if a user has a new phone or new computer, that will have log into wifi with their Office 365 password. If none of these apply, it's possible that there is a problem in a specific room. Since the user won't be connected to the internet, they should call or go to the Tech Office for help. Why Isn't My Apple TV working? Apple TVs are installed in all classrooms and meeting rooms. The Apple TV is set up using the name of the room. So it should show up in the Apple TV list as the specific room number the user is in. If the Apple TV is not showing up, the first step is to turn the Apple TV off and back on. A periodic restart is needed, say once a week. Occasionally people have gone in and renamed Apple TVs in a room. This is highly unfortunate since that makes it difficult or impossible to find it in the list as the expected name could be missing. Apple TV connectivity isn't perfect. The impact on the network when streaming videos is significant. If the video streaming quality is unacceptable, consider plugging in the VGA cable with dongle which should give very good results as it requires no network connection at all. Why Can't I Print? Printing should be easy on the Ricoh FollowMe printing system. The most common reasons something doesn't print are: The user doesn't have the print driver for their campus installed or doesn't select the print driver for the right campus. This applies to people who move between campuses or show up for the first time to print on the other campus. Get help from the Tech Office on that campus. The user forgets to click Accept on the print confirmation pop-up window on the Mac. The total cost of the print job is noted and unless you click Accept, nothing prints. Large graphic jobs may take a few minutes to spool up onto the printer. If you clicked Accept, then wait a couple more minutes for the job to show up in Follow Me. There is a limit on the number of pages that can printed to the copy room (1,000 pages) or to the individual printers across campus (250 pages). Why Is My Printing Taking So Long? Large print jobs, especially those which consist of nothing but pictures can take a few minutes, even 10 to 15 minutes, to show up in the Follow Me printing. This just a function of the system and not something that we can control. If the page is pure graphics, so for example, filled completely with pictures, and is many pages in length, it's possible it could take 10 minutes or longer to show up. Meanwhile, mixed content, including text and some graphics will come up much faster. Can you help me with Taobao or other personal tech items? Living in China can be confusing at times so coming to the IT Team is often necessary in order to understand things like WeChat and TaoBao. You can definitely come and ask for help, but it's best to do this after the school day is over so the IT Team can meet day to day school needs first. Where Do I Get Extension Cords? Extension cords are managed by the Facilities Department. Please contact them with questions relating to extension cords. Can you help me make a movie or understand how this app works? The IT Team is available to help with almost all tech related issues, however, if you are looking for assistance with apps or the creation of teaching resources it's best to consult the Innovation Coach. The Innovation Coach is there to help you build your skills and knows the best approach to take when using learning/creation tools. Ramsnet Caregiver Counseling Home Counseling Welcome to AISG Food & Nutrition Transportation Athletics Activities University Resources Counseling Social and Emotional Development Our work is both proactive and preventative as we teach explicit counseling lessons to support our students as they progress through their formative years. Through individual and small group counseling sessions and age-appropriate classroom lessons, students are provided with a multitude of ways to foster a variety of social and emotional wellness strategies. Our counselors work as part of a Student Support Team (SST), an intervention team that seeks to ensure appropriate academic, behavioral, and social support for all students. Counselors also provide parenting education through workshops and work with families as they transition in and out of Guangzhou. Counseling services at AISG are provided in an atmosphere that demonstrates an understanding of the student's background and the factors that are influencing his/her present circumstances, with acute cultural awareness and - in some cases - total confidentiality unless the topic is of a legal manner. International school Counseling Association (ISCA) Framework Our evidence-based International School Counselor Association (ISCA) standards model provides a strong focus on social-emotional, academic, and interpersonal counseling, as well as counselor-led parent education opportunities for the AISG community. Learn More about the Four Domains How do we support students across the divisions? Early Years and Elementary School Two guidance counselors work in the Early Years and Elementary School and are available to all students, in an individual, group, or class setting. Parents can also meet with counselors regularly through the school year to discuss the student’s progress or any concerns. Our Early Years and Elementary School Counseling Department focuses on: Encouraging personal growth and social development by: Developing life-long interpersonal skills such as emotion management (underpinned by the Second Step Curriculum). Fostering a sense of respect for self and others including the importance of personal boundaries, inappropriate vs appropriate contact, self-control, assertiveness, and confidence-building strategies. Ramsnet Caregiver The ISCA Framework Home Counseling The ISCA Framework Welcome to AISG Food & Nutrition Transportation Athletics Activities University Resources Counseling The Counseling Department at AISG collaborates with students, parents, teachers, and the academic leadership team to support all students through a comprehensive and developmental approach that addresses the four domains outlined by the International Model for School Counseling – academic, personal/social, career, and global perspective. These four domains are seen to reflect the needs of third culture kids (and host country nationals) in international schools. Our evidence-based International School Counselor Association (ISCA) standards model is comprehensive in scope, preventative in design and developmental in nature, providing instruction, support, and caring at every level. Comprehensive in Scope AISG’s school counseling program focuses on what all students, Pre-Kindergarten thru Grade 12, should know, understand and be able to do in the four domain areas: Academic, Career, Personal/Social and Global Perspective. The emphasis is on academic and social success in the international context, for every student, not just those students who are motivated, supported and ready to learn. Our school counseling program seeks to help all students achieve success in school and develop into contributing members of our local and international community. Preventative in Design AISG’s school counseling program seeks to impart specific skills and learning opportunities in a proactive, preventative manner, ensuring all students can achieve school success through academic, career, personal/social and global perspective experiences. Therefore, school counselor’s duties are focused on program delivery and direct counseling services. Preventative education is accomplished through the implementation of specific school guidance curriculum in the classroom and through coordination of prevention education programs such as, but not limited to, conflict resolution, anti-violence, bullying, transitions, acceptance of diversity programs at their sites, etc. Developmental in Nature Our school counselors design programs and services to meet the needs of students at various growth and development stages. Our counseling programs establish goals, expectations, support systems and experiences for all AISG students. These programs provide the rationale for school counselors, school administrators, faculty, parents or guardians to engage in conversations about expectations for student’s academic successes and strategies to enhance student learning. The Four Domains To support measurable indicators of student performance, each domain contains a series of competencies for students to work towards attaining. A brief description of each domain follows below: DOMAIN 1: ACADEMIC In the Academic Domain, students acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span. Ramsnet Caregiver University Resources Home University Resources Welcome to AISG Food & Nutrition Transportation Athletics Activities University Resources Counseling AISG believes in a student-centered approach with the post-secondary process. This means students are expected to take control of searching for universities or colleges, completing and submitting applications by posted deadlines, paying application fees, making decisions driving the process forward, signing up for standardized tests, and ultimately making an acceptance choice. Often times your family will play a role in decision making; however, do keep in mind you are the one attending university. This process will enable you to develop a sense of autonomy and responsibility, which are expected of you when you enter higher education. My job is to guide, counsel, probe, refer, suggest, and inform. Much of the information you need to know can be found below. When searching for universities or colleges, I encourage you to look for the 'right fit'. You know yourself better than anyone else. This is your future, so consider what exactly you need and want out of a post-secondary education. When searching and applying, do not consider universities solely based on name and ranking. There are a number variables to consider which are just as important, such as size, location, costs, and course offerings. When we speak of the 'right fit', you must also consider if you will literally fit in. I look forward to working with you during this exciting moment in your life.
